A MAN FULL OF DAYS
"He speaks by dreams and visions come in the night..." Job 33:15
Dreams of science and God inspire and misguide an artist who leaves work and wages behind to walk and create in the woods in this post-Biblical tale. Attempts at spiritual awakening are dashed as he encounters angels, misfits and his own demons. When he cuts his hand badly, infection sets in. Gangrenous fingers require serious attention, but he must rely on himself and a mysterious healer to overcome the pain. He resorts to an alchemical recipe called Mercury of the Moon to ward off angelic afflictions. Emaciated and beaten, the man is saved by good Samaritans, then dances absurdly into the night, joyfully imagining his own death.
In honor of The Leather Man who walked a 365-mile circuit every month through New York and Connecticut for 33 years. 1856-1889.
